About Diane Dupres

Diane Dupres

Yoga has always been a part of my life. In 2014, I lived in Jakarta and began going to yoga classes regularly and developing a meditation habit. In 2017, I became initiated in Shambhavi Mahamudra Kriya, which I practice daily.

In 2019, before I became a trauma-sensitive yoga instructor, I suffered a major health scare and was in hospital for two weeks. I continued practicing yoga and meditation, which provided great amusement to the nurses and other patients, but I firmly believe it helped me heal.

I realized during that time that my lifestyle and work were unsustainable if I wanted to be well. Yoga healed me, so why not find a way to do more of it?

Instructing trauma-sensitive yoga has changed my life. To me, it's the ultimate expression of the yogic yama, Ahimsa (non-violence), and it seems the most loving way to share a yoga experience with trauma survivors.

As a trauma survivor myself, I wish this treatment had been available to me when I was younger. If you self-identify as having had trauma, then you are always welcome to come to my classes.

I have over twenty-five years of teaching experience across five countries. My international experiences include raising public awareness about domestic violence in the Seychelles, supporting Afghani refugees in Malaysia, and working with local staff in Indonesia to create culturally resonant theatre programs.

In 2023, I became a fully accredited Trauma-Informed Yoga Facilitator through the Trauma Centre for Trauma-Sensitive Yoga, with a focus on working with young people. I am also a fully accredited Level 2 Yoga Teacher with Yoga New Zealand and am registered as a Professional Representative with Exercise New Zealand.

Additionally, I hold a full teaching certificate and am registered with the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand. My academic background includes an MA in Theatre and Film and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education.

The Importance of Trauma-Informed Yoga

Trauma-informed yoga is a compassionate and mindful approach that emphasizes safety, empowerment, and healing for individuals who have experienced trauma.

This practice goes beyond physical postures, focusing on creating a supportive and non-judgmental environment where participants can reconnect with their bodies and minds.

Integrating the principles of yoga with an understanding of the psychological and physiological impacts of trauma makes trauma-informed yoga a powerful tool for recovery and resilience.

By prioritizing the individual's experience and providing choices in movement and breath, this approach helps participants regain a sense of control and agency.

If you have experienced trauma and wish to reconnect with your body and mind, my trauma-informed classes are designed to support you in doing that.
